Ted McVay and his son Jim were on their way to a bonefish lodge as they snipped a few pieces of carpet from the taxi floor which they later tied into a bonefish fly. Every time they hooked up on that fly they said “gotcha” which later became the flies name.

Since then it has been one of the most successful bonefish patterns and has proven to be a dynamite pattern for a host of other species.
